The Chateau of Chenonceau is the most visited castle in the Loire Valley. It has gorgeous Renaissance gardens. It is set like a bridge across the Cher River. There are 426 rooms and 282 fireplaces. The forest in which it is in is a national game reserve.

The site has been inhabited continuously since the Celtic epoch. The castle was built on the site of an oppidum of the Gauls and was first documented in 1029. It belonged to the Beaumont-Bressuire family until the start of the 16th century.
